HealthEdge® and United Way of Hyderabad Expand School Transformation Initiative in India

Bangalore, India [July 18, 2025] – HealthEdge®, through its Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiative, in continued partnership with United Way of Hyderabad, has announced the successful transformation of the Government Higher Primary School (GHPS) in Dinnahalli, Karnataka. This achievement marks another significant milestone in the partnership between HealthEdge and United Way of Hyderabad, and their nationwide School Transformation Program aimed at improving educational access and infrastructure in under-resourced communities across India.

Located in Malur taluk, Kolar district, on the outskirts of Bangalore, GHPS Dinnahalli had faced longstanding challenges, including inadequate infrastructure, unsafe drinking water, and lack of proper sanitation facilities. These issues acted as barriers to learning and attendance. The recent transformation efforts have addressed these concerns by upgrading classrooms, ensuring access to clean drinking water, installing functional sanitation facilities, and introducing digital learning tools.

“For years, schools like GHPS Dinnahalli have represented the broader systemic challenges of rural India, where basic resources often remain inaccessible,” said Heather Bender, Chief People Officer, HealthEdge. “Our initiative is more than just infrastructure improvement. It is about restoring hope and creating opportunities for future generations. Every child deserves access to quality education and a conducive learning environment.”

This initiative is part of a broader commitment to close the learning gap in rural India. According to NITI Aayog's School Education Quality Index, over 40% of rural schools in India still lack basic amenities like functional toilets, electricity, or access to clean water. These deficits, particularly affecting adolescent girls and first-generation learners, often undermine overall educational quality and participation rates.

“Every child deserves access to quality education in a safe and supportive environment,” said Rekha Srinivasan, CEO, United Way of Hyderabad. “Our partnership with HealthEdge is helping us strengthen the learning ecosystem at GHPS Dinnahalli by addressing these foundational gaps. The upgraded classrooms and WASH (Water, Sanitation and Hygiene) facilities will not only improve learning conditions but also boost enrollment and support adolescent girls with dignified sanitation access.”

The renovated school was officially inaugurated in the presence of the Block Education Officer (BEO) of Malur Block, Smt. Chandrakala; local community members; school faculty; and leaders and employees from HealthEdge — furthering a culture of community ownership and shared responsibility.

Looking ahead, HealthEdge and United Way of Hyderabad will scale their School Transformation Initiative to include two additional schools in Maharashtra and Karnataka. With an unwavering focus on sustainability, digital inclusion, and systemic improvement, the initiative aspires to empower future generations by creating resilient and inclusive educational ecosystems.
